Downtown Festus & Crystal City is an independent not for profit organization dedicated to the preservation, improvement, and historic promotion of the downtown Main Street areas in Festus and Crystal City. The group formed in response to several fires in the Tanglefoot area. The association is composed of individuals, local merchants, other organizations, and volunteers. The Association follows a four-point Main Street program established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This approach has been proven to be very successful in many communities nationwide.
The Downtown Tanglefoot District is the heart of the community and an area that directly reflects the overall quality of life for the surrounding areas. The Main Street District contined in Historic Tanglefoot serve as a long standing source of community pride. Downtown Festus & Crystal City are places of historic significance that hold special memories for many people. Some of the brick buildings located in the district were built in the late 1800's This is a unique area where public and private sectors in the community can meet equally for parades, speeches and other community events. It is a valuable area where the Arts and Culture thrive.
